Last Tuesday, November 11th, I participated in an open track session with the SCDA Club. I was originally looking to test a Playboy MX-5 Cup car from Hale Motorsports, but he didn’t have any cars left for testing, so I took the Spec Miata rental instead. The day went very well, and my goal going in was to make a favorable impression on everyone and show I was fast and that I could drive. Mission accomplished! There were so many people there that were impressed with how I jumped into the car and was running very competitive lap times. Ian Prout — the SCDA president and owner of the rental Spec Miata — was very impressed with my driving, and gave me a very respectful write-up on his event recap, which you can read over here.
Looking ahead to the end of this year and next, I am anticipating running an 8-hour endurance race at Road Atlanta with the NASA Series in the first weekend of December. Also, Hale Motorsports liked the way I drove at the open track day and gave me an offer to race for the team next year in the Playboy MX-5 Cup. This would be a very good series in which to advance my career because it’s considered a “pro” series and even includes televised races on DIRECTV.
Well, that’s all for now. Check back for new updates throughout the winter months! — Matt
